Casuals crashed to defeat in their last pre-season game, but manager Brian Adamson was not despondent in view of the fact that Canvey Island are a good Ryman Premier League team. Adamson, however, felt his team could have done better and will be striving to sort out the weaknesses which were evident following this defeat, before the start of the new season on Saturday.
Canvey dominated the game from start to finish and it took just five minutes for Jay Curran to hit Casuals crossbar. Casuals were up against it as Canvey continued to pressurise and held out until the 19th minute when Ian Luck controlled the ball, passed to Gabriel Fanibuyan who curled his shot into the top right hand corner from the edge of the area.
The lead was doubled two minutes later when a Leon Gordon picked out Kevin Dobinson from a free kick who was lurking by the far post and buried his header past Paul Smith. Canvey continued to dominate, but Casuals did force home keeper into a save from a shot by Jason Hanif.
The second half was only five minutes old when Casuals conceded a penalty, but Colin Harris saved well to his left to keep the score respectable. After 61 minutes Canvey notched a third goal through Gordon and ten minutes later the scoring was completed when Steve Corbell hit the fourth.
Canvey fully deserved their win scoring four excellent goals, as a result of good football and clinical finishing, two of which the Casuals custodian could do little about.
