Casuals won their first away game of the season in style and consequently moved to fourth from bottom. It was a tremendous all round team performance which could have resulted in a much more comprehensive victory.
Corinthian-Casuals made a bright start, knocking the ball around with ease, before Walton settled down and began to make a contest of it. Goal scoring chances were at a premium in the early stages and it was only Walton's Steve Tyson whose header on 18 minutes towards the top corner which threatened. Fortunately though Colin Harris somehow clawed what looked a certain goal away.
Corinth took the lead on 35 minutes when Tom Jelley's cross was headed past Craig Bradshaw who did not even move. Walton attempted to battle back and came close, but Dale Hennessey was on hand to clear from close to the Corinth goal line. Walton's Dwayne Williams then saw a free kick saved and from the resulting play Victor Asombang headed wide.
On the stroke of half time Corinth extended their lead, when Joe Nwoko chased down a long ball from Byron Brown; Nwoko patiently waited for support to catch up, before passing to Tom Jelley whose deflected shot beat Bradshaw.
Corinth were in the ascendancy for most of the second half and Joe Funicello fired over, before Harris saved at the feet of Walton's Matt Weston. Walton's rally was short lived as on 66 minutes Corinth broke down the right wing and Jelley squared to Nwoko who shot home to seal victory.
Paul Hunt blazed over prior to Walton's only goal by Ben Stack who benefited from a momentary lapse of concentration by Harris on 80 minutes. Corinth then survived a few anxious moments as Walton attempted to get back in the game, but survived without too much difficulty.
