Cash strapped Folkestone recorded an important victory in while no doubt become a fight for survival as a minimum of five players were due to leave the club following this game. Injury hit Casuals were simply no match for the Kent club who currently sit in second place and only a heroic display by Colin Harris in the amateur's goal prevented a bigger margin of victory.
It could have been all so different if Joe Nwoko had finished Casuals only real chance on eight minutes when he was one on one with keeper Charlie Mitten. Unfortunately he had too much time and Mitten produced a good save.
Folkestone were largely in control from this point although they rarely threatened the Casuals goal until taking the lead on 28 minutes when James Corbett ran on to a long ball, Harris got a touch as he raced out of goal and the Folkestone player was on hand to head in under pressure from Chris Horwood. From this point Folkestone looked dangerous and could have added to their lead.
Casuals began the second half penned in by Folkestone and only some desperate defending kept them at bay. On 54 minutes the inevitable happened when Matt Bourne fired home through a mass of defenders following a corner to complete the scoring.
A nasty injury to Folkestone's Billy Shadow saw a length seven minute stoppage, but on the restart this did not prevent them continuing the attack. On 56 minutes Harris saved well from Nick Humphrey's free kick, and there were more good chances which went begging.
A brief rally by Casuals came to nothing as over elaborate play meant that they failed to get a shot on target during this period. Folkestone recovered and on 72 minutes despite there being three men offside they were allowed to continue an attack which saw James Everitt's header fly wide. Five minutes later James Dryden was in one on one but fired over.
Trevor Robinson hit a 30 yard strike high and wide in a rare Casuals chance, before Harris saved well in a one on one situation with Humphrey. The game petered out as Casuals failed to raise their game and the seven minutes of injury time felt like an eternity.
