Casuals turned in comfortably their worst performance in many months, as they went down with little more than a whimper against bottom placed Whitstable. The result sees the two clubs exchange places and Casuals can have few complaints.
Whitstable came into the game having scored one goal in the previous six games, but Casuals lack of fight contrived to make the visitors look like Brazil as they had their hosts on the back foot for virtually the entire 90 minutes.
Casuals problem stemmed from the midfield who were absolutely dreadful through out this painstaking affair sitting far too deep and failing to make the slightest impact on the game. It was so bad at times that it looked like Casuals were playing with an eight man defense which did little more than encourage Whitstable to attack.
Whitstable took a deserved lead on 26 minutes David Cory turned and hit a low drive past Colin Harris. Just prior to this Casuals had their best chance when a cross was almost sliced into his own net by Whitstable defender Gary Sayer. Paul Hunt attempted a 30 yard effort just after the goal, but with absolutely no service he was in for a lean night.
The second half started in the same fashion with it appearing there was a 30 yard void at all times between the midfield and attack. On 59 minutes Whitstable's Jake Gess blazed across goal, before Casuals livened up following the introduction of Tyrone Myton in a disjointed manner.
Whitstable though effectively killed the game on 67 minutes when Cory squeezed in his second goal of the night. With 13 minutes to go Myton fell over in the area, and the referee who must have been feeling sorry for the Casuals awarded a penalty which Dale Hennessey smashed home.
In injury time Harris produced a fantastic save to deny Cory his hat trick, before Tom Jelley was dismissed for a disgraceful tackle. In the final seconds Casuals almost committed daylight robbery when David Ocquaye's low drive forced Macvcar into a great save.
