Leatherhead vs Corinthian-Casuals
Bostik League Premier Division
Wednesday 28th November 2018 - 7.45pm

On Wednesday evening, Casuals will travel the short distance to face Leatherhead in the Bostik League Premier Division, where Manager James Bracken’s side will re-acquaint themselves with an old friend.

Shaun Okojie bagged 57 goals for Corinth over two seasons with 40 of them coming in the 2016/17 season, earning the 6’2” striker the league’s Golden Boot award.

His prolific scoring didn’t go un-noticed and was awarded a professional contract at National League side Aldershot Town. Sadly, his time came to an end with spells at Wealdstone and Eastbourne Borough before making the move back to Isthmian football with Leatherhead this season.

“It’ll be good to see Shaun,” said Bracken of his young protégé who was also with the Manager at Sutton United.

“I can’t ever say anything bad about the lad. He showed loyalty beyond what I could’ve ever expected. He turned down numerous approaches to stay here and believed in what I thought he could become. He done it all. Got his move to Aldershot which unfortunately was probably the wrong move for him at the time. He’s back at this level now and I hope he can kick on once again. Just not on Wednesday. We’ll hope for a blank from him, take three points and I’ll pat him on the back and say hopefully, one day you’ll come back and play for me.”

Bracken alludes to the contest ahead and what’s in store for fans. “Leatherhead are an in-form side but so are we. That’s going to make for a good game.”

Nikki Bull’s Tanners are one place below Casuals in the league table having played the same number of games. Both sides are in fine form with Casuals winning the last three and Leatherhead the last four. A 2-1 win at home to Kingstonian was followed up by a resounding 4-1 victory over Enfield Town before putting three past Burgess Hill and two against Tonbridge Angels with no reply.

As a parallel, Casuals also turned over Burgess Hill Town by the same scoreline as Leatherhead on Saturday. Away form is good too, with two wins on the bounce at Bognor and Carshalton. In fact, since the return of Captain and keeper Danny Bracken, Casuals have a 100% record in the league.

If anyone knows how to stop Okojie from scoring, it’s Casuals but will still have to be on guard to prevent the Tanner’s top scorer from adding to his tally. Meanwhile, Warren Mfula is finding his own form for Casuals with three in the last three games.

Fetcham Grove is close to Leatherhead’s town centre and is situated in Guildford Rd, Fetcham, Leatherhead KT22 9AS. Parking is plentiful in the adjacent Leisure Centre. For those travelling by bus, the 465 runs from Kingston, through Surbiton and Chessington to Leatherhead or the Railway station is a five minute walk to the ground.
