Jimmy Platt Memorial
[Club News] Wed 24 February 2010 05:55:39
There will be a memorial and thanksgiving service for Jimmy on Sunday 18 April at 1230 at St Nicolas Church, Taplow Village, nr Maidenhead, Bucks, SL6 OET.
Jimmy died on 27 Dec after a long illness. He had a distinguished career running the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges, much praised by Mrs Thatcher. After Cambridge he played in the 1951 Pegasus Amateur winning team against Bishop Auckland at Wembley, then sporadically for Corinthian-Casuals in the 50s, and in later years, the Schools' Team. As Brian Wakefield put it, "on the field he was a real Nobby Stiles, running and tackling, full of energy and bite". He was also played tennis, hockey and golf to a high standard. He came to Brazil with us in 1988 where his piano playing tranformed the post match entertainment and had everyone singing.
The family very much hope that we will join them celebrate Jim's life - at what was their village church at Taplow - and afterwards in the local hall.
