Here are some impressions from our memorable trip to Bilbao. Our hosts, the Walking Lions Getxo, delivered a brilliant tournament with plenty of good football and opportunities to mix with the other teams. We returned with a whole host of Invitations to visit Sweden, Lanzarote, Alicante and France.
The Tournament in the over 60's was won by the Swedish National Team who we drew against. Our own efforts were very even as we managed 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses with a goal difference of 0. Regardless of the results, we enjoyed the trip and hospitality and made lots of new friends.
We kindly received a link from the organisers of the tournament where you can follow he matches online from Sunday 22nd June 8:45am UK time
https://www.facebook.com/share/19F7DCyMvX/?mibextid=wwXIfr In keeping with the traditions of the club, Corinthian-Casuals Walking are visiting Bilbao to play in the III Getxo International Walking Football Cup 2025. This is not the first time Casuals are playing in Bilbao, their first visit was in 1923. We are proud to keep the Pink and Brown Flag flying high against opposition from Portugal, Italy, Sweden and several Spanish Clubs. On Saturday 22nd Feb we hosted the return leg at Goals Tolworth v Eintracht Frankfurt Walking Football whom we visited in May 2024. The by now traditional pre-match dinner was held on Friday evening at the Antelope in Surbiton with both teams in attendance. Big shout out the The Antelope staff for the great food and keeping the beers and ciders flowing. The return match took place Saturday at noon at Goals Tolworth. With the result almost secondary, Casuals won 9:1, the spirit was the most important part. After the match, every Frankfurt player was presented with a Corinthian-Casuals scarf as a momento of the occasion. For the next Frankfurt match v Leverkusen, one scarf was proudly worn in the Waldstadion (see picture below) Unfortunately our plan to take the Frankfurt guys to see Casuals v Alton did not work out as the weather gods had different ideas. The pitch at the Armada Group Stadium was certainly not in any danger of being used for a football match. That didn’t stop us taking our guests for a tour of the clubhouse and we opened the Megastore, so they had the opportunity to buy Casuals merchandise. Both teams enjoyed the games and journeys so much, that we agreed to make this an annual event. Next up is a Casuals trip to Frankfurt in 2026 to which we are all looking forward to. As this was something that brought together 2 clubs I hold very dear, I felt it right to donate a cup to be played for. Long may this tradition continue and be enjoyed by players from both clubs and countries. We managed to organise a Trip to Frankfurt to play Eintracht Frankfurt. On Friday 3rd of May, Corinthian-Casuals made their way to Frankfurt to play 2 Eintracht teams in 4 matches. Two were played using Surrey FA rules and two using the German rules. Those are different as they don't have a goalie and the goals are 3 feet high and around 10 feet wide. Shooting is only allowed inside the oppositions half. To make the games fair, we met up with most of the opposition on Friday evening for the social part of the trip and to ensure they had as much to drink as we did. Eintracht kindly covered our visit on their website, hope you remember your A-level German On Saturday we played at Eintracht Frankfurt's old ground, the "Riederwald" which is now their Youth Development Centre. There we enjoyed the cleanest dressing room that our team has ever seen. Games lasted 15 minutes and we played Eintracht's Black and Red team followed by their Black team in Surrey FA Rules. They they played each other using the German rules so we could get an idea. After the final whistle, one of the German players, Reinhard, who celebrated his first match for Eintracht, presented 2 crates of fine German beer which is a tradition over there. Warm or not, everyone enjoyed the beer and both teams mingled and analysed the previous matches much better than any Sky or TNT reporter or pundit could ever do. On the Sunday, they had kindly managed to get us tickets for the Bundesliga match Eintracht Frankfurt v Bayer Leverkusen. The opposition had only been crowned German Champion the weekend before. We enjoyed the atmosphere despite Eintracht struggling and getting an almost deserved 1-5 drubbing. It would have ended very well if it hadn't been for a Blatantly Awful Airline who cancelled our return flight 5 hours before we were due to come home and 7 of us had to stay an extra night (compensation and expense claim pending at time of publishing).
12 Players set off to represent Corinthian-Casuals in the very popular Walking Football Tournament in Portugal. We played 2 games, back to back v. our friends from Old Ruts At 10:00 our Portugal Squad (those who will represent CCFC at the Eurocopa in Portugal) played Old Ruts Over 60's Team. Despite the rain and a corner of the pitch resembling a Duckpond, the match was played in a competitive but sporting manner. In the end, Old Ruts left the field with a 4:2 victory. This match was followed by the Non-Portugal players - supplemented by Portugal squad players. Here, Corinthian-Casuals managed a 2:0 victory.
Back row from left, Tony B, Plumbs, John T, Gerry, Gary S. and Manager Gary T., Front row Tony S, Tony C and Andy M.
Great win this morning 7-2 against Fulham. We looked secure and balanced throughout. Now the really good news is on the 2/3 we are playing Old Rutts in a double header. 2 games back to back so we need everyone to be available please and it will be plenty of game time for everyone. Corinthian-Casuals v Kingston Walking Football 7:1
In the first encounter of the New Year, Corinthian-Casuals Walking Football Team managed a resounding win. Despite a slow and nervous start, the Pink and Brown finally settled into their stride and beat the opposition convincingly. Apart from the regular Sunday morning sessions, there are several friendly matches scheduled for the near future. |
