Corinthian-Casuals hit back with a resounding 3-0 win over Guildford City to put them one point off the playoff places.

A brace from Andre Coker and an early second half header from Clayton Afonso saw off bottom side Guildford in a dominant performance.

It was a relief for Manager Mu Maan following a disappointing loss to Horley Town just three days earlier. A number of changes were made from that defeat including the debut of Freddie Greenstreet on dual registration from National League side Woking.

Guildford City, languishing at the foot of the table with a meagre five points put up more of a fight than their lowly position suggested. But that was undone after 28 minutes when Andre Coker turned his man in the box and struck into the bottom far corner. “A lovely little goal” as described over the PA system by match announcer Lucy.

Casuals doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when Coker curled his free kick from 20 yards into the corner.

Guildford emerged for the second half with makeshift keeper Kallum Peart, who up to that point had donned the seven shirt. Despite conceding early on to a Clayton Afonso towering header, courtesy of Diogo Da Silva’s corner, Peart looked like he had a whale of a time in goal.

Peart made a number of confident saves, including a point blank wonder stop to prevent substitute Patrick Maia from adding a fourth. It was an impressive shut out from the winger in an otherwise meek performance from the visitors.

It was vital for Maan’s Casuals to get points on the board ahead of a trip to Camberley Town on Saturday. They’ll feel they’re back in the playoff hunt with three points at Krooner Park potentially propelling Corinth into the top five.
