Godalming Town 2-2 Corinthian-Casuals Combined Counties League Premier South Saturday 26th September 2026 Report: Dominic Bliss Photos: Andy Nunn (full set here) The only time it isn’t fun to see a goalkeeper score is when your team is on the receiving end. Corinthian-Casuals travelled to Godalming with three wins from our last five games, on the up under new manager Liam Giles and with a real buzz among the supporters, who once again turned out in good numbers. he team’s first-half performance reflected that new-found confidence, as Casuals controlled the ball, playing in Godalming’s half for most of the half, and finding the net twice, although Azeez Elegushi’s early effort was chalked off for a handball. Lee Quincey’s back-post header stood, however, and arrived at a good time – right on the half-hour mark. It felt like the breakthrough that might loosen the tight defensive structure that had kept Godalming in it up to that point. However, the home side were in spirited mood, despite their lack of possession. They were well-drilled and seemed determined to prove a point following the dismissal of their manager, Mo Sher, last week. They had a chance to level right on the stroke of half-time, after Casuals goalscorer Quincey got caught in possession trying to shepherd the ball out, but Nathan Boamah – on his return to the Casuals goal – made a good stop at his near post to ensure the visitors went in deservedly ahead at the break. The second half began in strangely subdued style, however. The vibrancy of Casuals’ first-half forward play was gone, and Godalming emerged from under the cosh to offer a threat of their own. Fears that Casuals might sleepwalk into conceding an equaliser were realised just after the hour, when Shane Johnson – who made a single appearance in pink-and-chocolate last season – popped up at the back post to make it 1-1 from close range. Promisingly, that proved to be a wake-up call for Giles’ side, prompting them to retake the initiative, pushing forward and rediscovering the patterns of play that had seen them pose so many problems in the first half. One such move ended with Morgan Vale being caught on the ankle as he turned just inside the penalty area, and the referee pointed to the spot. Kieran Campbell – playing in a deeper midfield role – made no mistake from 12 yards, scoring his fifth goal in six games to restore the lead. Now it was about staying switched on and denying the hosts a way back into the game. That task was made a whole lot more difficult four minutes later, when Toby Nelson was shown a second yellow card following an innocuous incident inside the Godalming half. However, Casuals didn’t look particularly troubled with 10 men, adapting to the challenge just as they had done at home to Yateley the previous weekend. It looked for all the world like we would see the game out, but Godalming were determined. They forced a corner deep into stoppage time and sent forward goalkeeper Stephen Douglas, who was the quickest to react when the ball broke loose on the edge of the six-yard box, guiding the ball into the back of the net before celebrating wildly.
He had earned his side – who sit second from bottom in the table – a valuable point. But the visiting fans and players found it hard to see the magic in the moment. Another win would have really sent a message to the league that Casuals were ascendant, but as it stands we can take solace from a record that shows three wins and two draws from our last six. Corinthian-Casuals: Boamah, Matthews, Morrison (McElligott 68), Fisher (Adelakun 90+4), Afonso (c), Quincey, Nelson, Elegushi (Day 68), Balde Dansoko, Campbell (Nouble 79), Vale
