Corinthian-Casuals 4-1 Eversley & California Combined Counties League Premier South Saturday 5th September 2026 Report: Dominic Bliss Photos: Andy Nunn (full set here) The sun was out, there was a bounce to the atmosphere at King George’s. The grass was green, the sky was blue, even the railway trains eventually came rolling through after earlier delays had played havoc with some fans’ matchday travel plans. Oh, and Corinthian-Casuals won a home game for the first time since last November. That’s a stat that places things in perspective, but if this performance is anything to go by the wait for the next one should be far shorter. Liam Giles only took over as manager after our win over Met Police on Bank Holiday Monday, meaning he and his coaching staff had two training sessions – and a little bit of time in the clubhouse/classroom – to prepare their game plan for Saturday. Add to that the addition of eight new signings, and it was surprising how joined up some of our play looked, particularly going forward. Giles credited his highly experienced assistant manager, Harrison Williams, for the discernible patters of play on show as we ran out 4-1 winners over bottom-of-the-table Eversley & California. Now, you could look at that in two ways – yes, we were playing a team at the foot of the table, but it wasn’t so long ago that we were the team propping up the league. So this was very much building some positive momentum after last weekend’s four-point haul under the interim management team led by Paul Hill. Giles was also quick to acknowledge there are still areas to work on and improve, and it wasn’t completely plain-sailing, but the team were clearly well-prepared and geed up. They certainly rode the wave of optimism that the crowd of 321 brought to the game. We didn’t have to wait long to take the lead, with Kieran Campbell bursting into the box in the inside-right channel, before steering the ball across goal from a tight angle. It was turned in by a hapless Eversley defender, but the goal was awarded to Campbell by the match announcer, and opinions differed on whether his initial effort was goalbound. Either way, we had the lead and we began to play with more confidence in the spell that followed, carving out a number of opportunities that we should have made more of, with Campbell blazing a good chance over the bar and impressive new arrival Dan Webster ending a great run with a slightly underhit left-footed effort that the goalkeeper snaffled up. There was, however, a mid-half lull that invited the visitors to carve out a couple of counterattacks, from which they won a series of corners. However, those were dealt with by a combination of confident keeping and defensive nous. It felt like a second goal before half-time would calm nerves and give us a psychological advantage, and it arrived two minutes into first-half stoppage time. Campbell timed his run perfectly to get in behind the defence just as a lovely dink from Azeez Elegushi dropped over the backline, and he finished calmly to make it 2-0. We looked in control for most of the second half, and the substitutes were keen to make an impact. Morgan Vale was the latest of the new arrivals this week and he marked his debut with a goal just moments after coming off the bench, latching onto Campbell’s pass and showing great composure to finish. Then Frazier Osunkoya brought the energy you want to see from a forward coming into the game, giving the Eversley defenders the tussle they really could have done without at that point in the game. Once again, Campbell was the provider, carving out a lovely cross from the right, and Osunkoya threw himself at the header, only to see it rebound off his marker’s head and spin towards the goal-line. Hungry to get his name on the scoresheet, he followed it up and slammed the loose ball home.
The only blot on the landscape on a beautiful afternoon in Tolworth was the concession of a sloppy late consolation goal, which prevented us from registering our first clean sheet of the campaign. But the fans sang the team off the pitch and there was a buzz that we might just be into something good. A far sterner test awaits next with the visit of Redhill, but we go into it with a spring in our step. Corinthian-Casuals: Boamah, Matthews, Afonso (c), Quincey, Morrison (Falodi 69), Elegushi (Whittaker 73), Webster (Brooks 67), Fisher, Nouble (Osunkoya 58), Campbell, Oblitey (Vale 59) Scorers: Campbell 5, 45+2, Vale 62, Osunkoya 81
