Corinthian-Casuals midweek woes continued with a dour 2-0 loss at Tadley Calleva on Tuesday night.

Mu Maan’s side haven’t picked up a single point in their midweek travels since a 1-1 draw with Knaphill over a year ago. Just five of Casuals 22 points so far have been gained on the road.

With a resounding 4-1 win over Thatcham Town on Saturday, it was hoped that Corinth would push on with their playoff hopes. And despite minimal changes to personnel (Diogo Da Silva in for Gabriel Odunaike and Connor Everitt for Shea Cascoe-Rogers), the match took on a very different guise to the weekend’s fare.

A change in formation, playing three at the back, with wing-backs deployed didn’t reap rewards, often leaving huge gaps in midfield to which a well organised Tadley side took advantage of. It felt like young Connor Everitt, making his first start after coming in from the Under 23’s was often left to try and fill the hole.

Tadley had a number of threatening advances, with the closest being a rushed clearance rebounding off their forward and almost into an empty net. Casuals were living a charmed life, until Connor Thorne broke into the box and drilled his shot past Sanghyun Baek’s near post.

Six minutes later and Tadley had a second, which killed the game, considering Casuals had barely mustered an effort on goal. Some desperate defending saw Ash Neal eventually tap into an empty net leaving Corinth reeling.

A formation change saw Maan’s Casuals become a ‘tad’ more competitive in the second period, but continually faced a yellow wall of committed Calleva players. They left Casuals with no time on the ball, often doubling or tripling up on their men. They also had fight and spirit, celebrating well won throw-ins or good challenges in a rousing way of keeping motivation up. It clearly works for them as they notched up their eleventh unbeaten result at home this season. Take nothing away from Tadley – they’ve built up Barlow’s Park as a real fortress.

Slim pickings were left for the travelling Casuals with Wilgnner   Ewerton's   free kick going dangerously close and a late save preventing Arsenii Protsyshn from getting his second in two games. But those were the meagre highlights of the half-chances that all could be mustered in an otherwise tepid performance.

Casuals look imperious at home; They lay third in the form table for home matches with just one loss this season. There’s no doubt that with a good crowd and a good pitch, Maan’s side thrive at King George’s. But if they’re to challenge for playoff places, they need to quickly work out a way to gain points on the road, or else a mid-table finish beckons once again.
