We are sad to report that former player and Chairman Geoff Hewitson has died, peacefully in his sleep in Winchester Hospital on 13th February 2018.
Geoff played for the First Team over 6 Seasons from 1957/58, mainly at full back, then for many years, in the Schools Team. A long time committee man, he was Chairman for 5 years from 2001 – 2006, presiding over a difficult period with Kingston Council over the Tolworth lease and over ground improvements that helped us get back into the Isthmian League. After school at Sir George Monoux G.S. in Walthamstow and two years National Service in the RAF, Geoff was three years at Selwyn College, Cambridge, reading history. He played against Oxford at right back in 1957/58 in a 1-1 draw. He taught briefly at Forest, then for 37 years at Winchester, where, as well as running football and cricket for a long period, he was a house master for 15 years, then Registrar, then Deputy Head. A minute’s silence in honour of Geoff will be observed at the home match against Sittingbourne on 24th February.

We were delighted to be featured on The Stan Collymore Show this past week, which was first broadcast via RT – One of the world’s largest broadcasters, available to over 700 million homes worldwide. Collymore, the ex-England, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest striker visited King George’s to film his extensive piece on the club. Speaking to the likes of Chairman Brian Vandervilt, Historian Norman Epps and Match Reporter Cameron Smith, Collymore’s piece captured the essence of matchday as Casuals played out a 0-0 draw with Hythe Town. To be featured on such a large platform for a club of our size is testament to the historical importance the club has played. It’s not a one-off either. FIFA’s weekly TV show was in attendance last week to film their own piece on the importance of Corinthian-Casuals. The show is set to air on Eurosport in the coming weeks. You can watch the Stan’s piece courtesy of RT’s YouTube channel here. |
