Casuals Honoured for Wembley’s 10th Anniversary

Wembley Stadium celebrated its 10th year anniversary on Friday 19 May by lighting up its iconic arch in the colours of every football team who has played at the famous arena since its reopening. Corinthian-Casuals are included in the celebrations as we were one of the very first sides to play at the newly rebuilt stadium in 2008 when we took on AFC Wimbledon in a prestigious friendly.

One hundred and sixty six domestic, European and international men’s and women’s football teams have graced the Wembley turf in the last decade across a variety of competitions and friendlies. To mark anniversary, and in a show of gratitude to all the clubs, Wembley Stadium displayed each of the club or national colours on the famous arch. The name and crests of the clubs were also shown on the outside of the stadium as shown in the picture.

Last night’s end-of-season awards supper saw Shaun Okojie, Jack Strange and Juevan Spencer scoop trophies for their achievements this past season.

Ayman-El-Moghafbel and Andy Ali also bagged awards for their efforts in the Reserve’s title winning side.

In an evening which saw tributes paid to Brian Wakefield, who’s stepping down from the School’s XI secretary role after 40 years of service, Chairman Brian Vandervilt, President Micky Stewart OBE and Vice President David Harrison also praised the efforts of both James Bracken’s and Will Lett’s sides.

In an impassioned speech, Bracken vowed he would follow good on his original promise to get Casuals promoted and continue to grow players and develop to their full potential. He also praised the work of all those who give up their time to help develop the club, our sponsors: Selachii and Jellyfish and of course, our supporters, who he called the best in the league by far.

The awards were as follows:

Supporter’s Player of the Season: Jack Strange & Shaun Okojie
Player’s Player of the Season: Juevan Spencer
Manager’s Player of the Season: Shaun Okojie
Most Improved Player of the Season (Young Player of the Year): Jack Strange
Reserves Player’s Player of the Season: Andy Ali
Reserves Manager’s Player of the Season: Ayman El-Moghafbel

Big thank you to all those who’ve contributed throughout the season (you know who you are) and a special thanks to John Forrest who’s generosity helped to fund the evening.

Another New Suit for Bracken

Despite the disappointment of last weekend, Corinthian-Casuals Manager James Bracken (pictured above, second left) scooped April's Macron and Nicholas Rowe Tailoring Manager of the Month award.

It’s Bracken’s second consecutive win and fourth overall in the two years at King George’s Arena.

Casuals won all five league matches in April with notable wins over Hythe Town (5-0), Lewes (3-2) and Godalming Town (5-1). Add into this the dramatic away win at Greenwich Borough in the playoff-semi final and Casuals’ Gaffer was the natural choice.

Corinth ended the season with nine straight wins before losing on penalties to Dorking Wanderers in the playoff final.

Congratulations on the award, James.
