Josh Uzun’s late header was the difference between Corinthian-Casuals and Molesey in the Ryman League Division One South tie on Bank Holiday Monday. Substitute Uzun scored his third goal of the season in the 87th minute ensuring Casuals got back to winning ways after crashing out of the FA Cup just two days before. And Manager James Bracken praised his squad for pulling themselves together and getting back to winning ways. The result leaves Casuals third in the league table. “It was a good performance today; back to a clean sheet and what we were doing before. We’ve gone at it a slightly different way today with slightly different personnel. Some of that was enforced; we had fourteen players unavailable today through injury or other reasons. Not many clubs can come here with fourteen out and still get a win. “Molesey have been doing well and had a couple of big wins so to shut them out, nick a goal and win it means it’s been a good day. “Josh’s goal was superb. You know with Josh (Uzun), that if he gets a chance – and let’s be honest, that wasn’t even a half chance, he’ll take it. It was a fantastic run and header and I don’t know how often anyone could score from that. It was a great goal. “We set up today to make sure we were competitive. I thought on Saturday (in the 3-1 loss to Pagham) the second ball kept slipping in between gaps and we weren’t really picking up on them enough. So we went with a system which meant we were able to get the second ball. It put us in the game more. I knew we’d create chances, it was a case of keeping Molesey out though. We’ve defended fantastically and everyone has put a bit in. “When you win all the time, you sometimes take that for granted, and I’m probably just as guilty of that. When you have a couple of defeats and then you get the win, you enjoy it just that little bit more. “You don’t want to be going three or four defeats in a row. You want to nip that in the bud as early as possible. It’s nice that we’ve only had one day off since the last defeat so we could get back to winning ways as soon as possible.” Match report and images to follow.

It is with great sadness that we have to report the departure of club talisman, Jamie Byatt. The forward, who made history in January, by becoming the first Corinthian-Casuals player to ever wear the famous SC Corinthians Paulista shirt, has left the club to join Tooting & Mitcham United. In recent seasons, Jamie has found incredible goal scoring form, having netted 60 goals in the last two seasons. With his goals, and likeness to former Corinthians goal keeper, Julio Cesar, he has become loved by millions of the fans both home and away, and he will be sorely missed. At 33, who knows if we’ll ever see Jamie playing at the club again. Having scored 110 goals, he has become the second highest ever goal scorer for the club, behind Cliff West and it has been his goals in recent years that have seen the club escape relegation. In the 2013/14 season, he managed to miraculously carry the team to safety when all had seemed lost.. Casuals manager, James Bracken, has expressed great sadness to see Jamie leave but also respects the decision of the striker who wants guaranteed game time, and in his favoured position, of center forward. Something James Bracken was unable to offer Jamie, having assembled an exciting, young squad, full of attacking talent. We wish Jamie the very best of luck with the move and look forward to welcoming him back to King George’s Arena, with his new team, when Casuals entertain Tooting & Mitcham on October 27th. Jamie Says, “To everybody at Corinthian-Casuals and SC Corinthians Paulista, after 287 appearances and 110 goals…it’s time for me to blow the whistle on this part of my career. I would like to thank Corinthian-Casuals and SC Corinthians Paulista for the opportunity to go to Brazil, it was without doubt the highlight of my career and something I will never forget. I have a million memories that I will cherish forever. Playing in front of 30,000 people at the Arena in Sao Paulo, not to mention the millions on TV, who witnessed me wearing the SC Corinthians shirt with pride…I’m just sorry I couldn’t score for you crazy bunch!! This Casuals team and the many many moments we’ve shared together, will stay with me forever. I must also mention the great fans and the support I’ve had at Casuals and SC Corinthians Paulista…thank you! But it’s now time for me to move on, I’m signing for Tooting & Mitcham. This was a decision that wasn’t made lightly and it was one of the hardest of my life to leave Casuals, a club that has been a part of my entire life and will continue to live in my heart. Vai Corinthians!! Best of Love, Jamie.” Dorking Wanderers came from a goal behind to maintain their unbeaten start to the season but end Corinthian-Casuals good start to the Ryman League campaign. In a high intensity match, a 53rd minute goal from Emmanuel Akokhia was swiftly cancelled out within 60 seconds of the restart when Tom Tolfrey found the net, followed by a Kev Terry winner in the 58th minute. The result sees Casuals drop from 1st to 3rd in the table and Dorking Wanderers move up into 2nd. After the match, Corinth boss James Bracken spoke commented on the match. “I'm not going to say it's not a fair result. We could've maybe nicked something in the last fifteen minutes. We’ve put a lot of pressure on them, missed one or two half chances that might have gone in on another day and to be fair to their keeper, he's pulled out two world class saves... one in the first half and one in the second. “They're a decent side and it was a good game. I don't think we really put the intensity in like we can to the game until the last fifteen minutes, which was obviously a little too late. “They say that ten minute period after you score a goal is always crucial and we’ve had a lapse in concentration. Their first, we earmarked the player not to give him even a couple of yards in the box, but we have and he’s had enough room to turn and shoot. “There’s always positives to take out of this though, such as the response from everybody who upped their game when we’ve gone 2-1 down. Everybody to a man seemed to be able to go up a gear and put their foot in. There’s no cross words in the dressing room because they’ve been absolutely fantastic since I’ve been here and one defeat in a close game doesn’t change anything. “It’s now how we respond on Saturday. Make sure we stay in the FA Cup, go on a run and that’s what matters.” Casuals travel to the coast to face Pagham in the FA Cup on Saturday. Corinthian Casuals v Dorking Wanderers Tuesday 25th August 7.45pm Ryman Division One South Top of the league but another challenge awaits as we face Dorking Wanderers for the first time in a competitive match.
