Farewell and Thanks for the Memories

We say a sad goodbye to three club stalwarts

Tonight, at the club Annual General Meeting, we said a very emotional farewell to our Club Captain and player of over 500 competitive appearances – Danny Bracken.

Along with Dan, we also say goodbye to Physio Carly Doyle and Goalkeeping Coach Alan Winnett. Combined, the three have nearly forty years of experience at Corinthian-Casuals. We will miss them all dearly.

In his 12 years with the club, Danny lead Corinthian-Casuals from bottom of Isthmian League South up through to the Isthmian Premier, much of it under the managership of elder brother James who brought his remarkable skills to Cor-Cas in 2015.

Danny’s first club was Tooting and Mitcham but he was soon out on loan, finding himself at Corinthian-Casuals; and there he has stayed. When Danny joined, he was still juggling football and his education, but throughout his three years at the University of Brighton, his commitment to Corinthian-Casuals never wavered.

At Corinthian-Casuals Danny very soon established himself as a class “stopper”.  He was named Isthmian League South goalkeeper of the year for three consecutive seasons as well as winning a host of club honours as he helped the club through promotion up to the Isthmian Premier.

Danny has been a major contributing factor to the success of Corinthian-Casuals both on and off the field in the last twelve years. He always conducted himself as a professional despite continually turning down offers of paid roles with clubs, often higher up the divisions. Such is the love for Casuals, no player would ever take a defeat or even a conceded goal as personally as Dan. He wore his heart on his sleeve and if you were to cut him open, he’d bleed chocolate and pink. In every sense, Dan is a true Corinthian, worthy of mixing it with the names that hold this club in legendary status.

We also bid farewell to Carly Doyle who’s been with the club as long as Danny and yet, arguably without the recognition she truly deserves. An accomplished physio, Carly has been an integral part of the first team for over a decade and was with us on our historic tour to Brazil in 2015. Her efforts will be sorely missed as well as sadness of no longer seeing her at games.

Finally, we wish Alan Winnett all the best too; the man who put Danny through his paces on a weekly basis. Goalkeepers feared his intense training sessions but ultimately, it’s what kept Danny and other keepers with Casuals over the years at the top of their game.

We will miss all of them dearly and the club will not be the same without them. Farewell… and thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for the memories.
