The new graffiti mural was designed by local artist, RA, who focused his work on the transatlantic connection between Corinthian-Casuals and Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, featuring the crest of the Brazilian club and the monogram of the original Corinthian Football Club alongside the words ‘Fiel Londres’ and the supporter group’s bulldog motif.
The colours are the black, white and red of the Fiel Londres, a collection of Brazilian Corinthians supporters who now live in London and regularly attend our games.
“I got given quite a simple brief and it was about connection and international relationships,” said RA, who was working close to home on this project.
“I’m a local, I’ve been born and raised in this borough, in Chessington, so it was quite nice for me to be able to speak to Brian [Adamson] and get his ideas. He was quite straight up, he said he’s not an artistic person, but he knows what he likes, and I said, ‘OK, I can work in some stuff regarding the logos and add some graffiti flair to it.
“So, it’s been a really nice project, rain or shine, to make sure that I make other people smile. That’s probably the most important thing to me, as an artist – to know that if I leave and the people are happy, then I can sleep well.”
And what does he hope the supporters will make of his work?
“I hope that this becomes a bit of a backdrop for their group photos, so I’d love to see some interaction,” he says. “Any interaction with my art is a massive positive – that means I’ve done my job. So if anyone feels like using it to take photos or selfies with, or if it’s just something that gets celebrated, I’ll be happy. That’s what I think art like this is for – it’s a celebration of community, and this place is a bit of an institution, so it’s nice to give something back to that and leave a lasting mark that gets enjoyed by others.”
