Corinthian-Casuals are delighted to announce a formal partnership with Richmond Park Women FC, who will become part of the Corinthian-Casuals family.

The partnership means that, on 18 August, Richmond Park FC Women will start the 2024/25 season where they left off, in Tier 6 of the women’s football pyramid in London & South East Regional Women’s Division 1 North.

Speaking on the news, Corinthian-Casuals Women’s chair, Ann Hutchinson, said: “We are very excited to have Richmond Park Women join us. With the infrastructure, facilities and fan base we have here at Corinthian-Casuals, we hope we can do our part in elevating the women’s game in Kingston and beyond, while supporting Richmond Park Women to have continued success at Tier 6. We look forward to welcoming teams like Brentford Women First Team to play at our famous ground. And we look forward to Richmond Park Women becoming our Corinthian Casuals Women’s First Team in 2025/26 season.”

Christian Humphries, Richmond Park Women’s manager, added: “Richmond Park has been a real success story, focusing solely on female football. Richmond Park Women’s team started from scratch at age 8 as a youth grassroots team, winning cups and leagues and eventually promotion to a Tier 6 adult league with the likes of Brentford Women. We have created a genuine football pathway for girls in the local area. The time is now right for Richmond Park Women’s team to take this next step and partner with a club of the stature of Corinthian-Casuals to open new opportunities on and off the pitch.”

Richmond Park Women will play their home games at King George’s Field and at Kingston University Sports Ground on Sunday afternoons from August to May.

Elaborating on the partnership, Corinthian-Casuals Women’s match secretary, Emma Foster said: “We’ve been in conversation for some time. And we have already achieved so much in the past month alone, thanks to the excellent relationships and incredible efforts and goodwill of players, coaches, volunteers, and staff. We are delighted to have Richmond Park Women on board. Richmond Park’s youth setup will continue to play a massive role in providing a player pathway for young girls in the borough to play good football at the highest level possible as early as they can.”

“We want Corinthian-Casuals to be a shining beacon for all girls and young women who want to play competitive football in the wider area. We hope to see the local community getting behind the women’s team just as they have the men’s team over years. This is such an exciting development in the long and proud history of our great club. We hope match days will be just as thrilling and the best place for a family day out!”

All Richmond Park Women’s home games held at the Armada Group Stadium, King George's Field are included in our club season ticket, making it great value for money. Corinthian-Casuals and Richmond Park Women continue to hold open training sessions for any player who believes they can play at Tier 6 level or higher.

​Sophia is helping the club build on the early season success with a longer-term focus on the construction of an institution for the community.

“My hopes and aspirations are to be a leader within the team, the voice of the players and to be an asset to my teammates on the pitch. I would love to use these platforms available to us to be able to reach out to younger female players to encourage and inspire them to get involved in the game. I think there is still a stigma around women’s football and if we can try and eradicate that one young player at a time then that would be a personal goal of mine.

“Anyone who has been on the rollercoaster of a journey that most of us women footballers have been on will understand the highs and lows. From being banned as a game for women by the FA in 1921 and then being allowed again as recently as 1971 to the most recent Euros win. If we can keep expanding and growing the game at the rate we are going now it will be something to look forward to. More can be done such as visibility, promotion, and opportunities. It needs to be shown as frequently as possible and be as readily available and accessible to gain traction. Using merchandise is a great way to promote the game and, as we have seen recently, we are still struggling with that.

“Opportunities are the biggest one for me, let’s break down the barriers and let young girls and boys understand this is a game for all.”

Sophia’s personal aspirations go together with the club’s - success on and off the field is the aim.

“Our hopes for the team this season are to be as successful as we can be and improve on our performance. We understand we need to work hard and put in effort if we want to see results. It is always a bonus to win silverware for the club and to be successful in the league so I will add that to the list too. We want to attract players to our club to join the team and feel a part of the community we are building.”

Sophia has a wonderful rapport with her manager and cannot speak highly enough of Dean Gaynor.

“Dean is a great character, his personality is very warm, very approachable, very encouraging, very positive, all around he is a very good manager.”

Ahead of the cup tie against Guernsey Sophia wants everyone to know that the Casuals is more than a club, it is a pillar to its community, and everyone is welcome.

“Corinthian-Casuals welcomes players with open arms into an inclusive and community-based club environment. We have a great set of players here at the women’s team and a sense of belonging this early in the season.”

With everything in mind, Sophia is very excited to play her first cup game for the Chocolate and Pinks at the stadium, a great occasion for Corinthian-Casuals Women’s football.

“With the cup games, it brings a little bit more excitement, it’s a knockout so you don’t get another chance. Guernsey at the King George’s Arena, we are looking forward to it, we got a big crowd last time we were there, it was great, and we got a good vibe off that. It gave us a boost, to know that we will get that extra support.”

Corinthian-Casuals FC Women will begin the Greater London Women's Football League Division 2 South & Central season away at Tooting Bec on Sunday 3 September.

​The first home game will be the following week - Sunday 10 September - when we welcome AFC Croydon Athletic.

Why did you want to get involved in women’s football? 

I have three daughters and I want to show them that it’s not all about men’s football. There is nothing to stop women achieving what men have in this game. I think empowering women is a good thing, and that’s my task.  The energy and enthusiasm that everyone in the women’s setup has is only going to help me more, and strive to do good things. I can tell everyone’s really excited and up for the challenge, so it’s really good to be around that. 

Have you got a glimpse of this club’s significance on your first visit to the ground? 

Yeah, and I want us to bring more history to the club. I want, in a 100 years’ time, people to remember this time. I want to bring more trophies in to this clubhouse, enjoy more celebrations like the ones on the walls here, and I think we can do that. That’s my main aim. Let’s make a mark on this club.
