Corinthian-Casuals 2 – 2 Badshot Lea Combined Counties League Premier South Saturday 6th December 2025 Report and Photos – Stuart Tree (full set here). Additional photos from Andy Nunn. “That’s what happens when you don’t take your chances” said Coach Mo Maan following the 2-2 draw with Badshot Lea on Saturday. A two-goal lead, courtesy of strikes from Andre Coker and Arsenii Protsyshyn looked to have been enough for Casuals to notch up their fourth win on the bounce, but the Baggies had other ideas as they struck twice to level the scores. It’s the seventh time that Corinth have surrendered a lead this season, losing out on points after taking the lead. And the draw keeps the Tolworth outfit agonisingly outside the playoff places. Mo Maan and Richard Blackwell were in charge following Manager Mu Maan’s suspension from the touchline and with Assistant Manager Gabriel Odunaike in the starting XI, unsurprisingly following his late winner last week at Sheerwater. They would’ve been delighted at the fast start that their side made. Coker turned his man and shot low into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead after just three minutes. Casuals were playing pleasing-to-the-eye football; Protsyshyn’s low drive forced Roan Strong into a fine save. Scott Day had a few bites of the cherry with a volley deflected wide, a header that hit the bar and what looked like an incredible save from Strong following another close range shot. It was coming at Badshot from all angles, but Corinth could not find that elusive second. Not until the second half at least; Protsyshyn found his scoring boots once again driving home from inside the penalty area as the rain lashed down. The perfect start to both halves. But that goal changed the game. Badshot Lea looked like they were freed up... as if the pressure was off. It saw the young side put the ball down and play. A raft of fresh legs giving them extra impetus. Just before the hour mark, the Baggies forced home a wide free kick on the slippery surface to halve the deficit. And with ten minutes remaining, their pressure paid off with a good move down the right, seeing Max Cunningham turn the ball home from the byline cross. A vital goal line clearance from captain Quincy Rowe prevented Lea from making the ultimate turnaround which spurred Casuals onto late pressure. Strong remained strong in goal, with a number of stops to prevent the home side from grabbing a winner. It wouldn’t have looked out of place either… Casuals have found the net seven times in stoppage time this season. But when Clayton Afonso’s late, late header sailed over, which was the last opportunity spurned and thus the points were shared. Did it feel like a loss? Not really, despite having a two goal advantage stripped away. The positive angle states that Casuals make it four games unbeaten in a tight race for playoff places. “Their gaffer just come up to me after the game and said, that's what happens when you miss your chances in the first half. And that's exactly what happened,” said Mo Maan after the match.
“We had four or five chances in the first half to put the game out of bed, but yeah, it just wasn't meant to be, but we have to take it on the chin. It’s a hard one to take. “After we scored the second goal, we stopped doing what we were doing in the first half. We were pressing them high, but I felt like as soon as we scored the second goal, we stopped doing that. I don't know why that was. Listen, Badshot Lea are a good side. They're energetic. They kept pushing us. To take the good from this… it’s another game unbeaten. Now we have a massive game against Cobham in a couple of weeks. But yeah, the run keeps going. Of course the boys are disappointed and it’s back to the drawing board. Hopefully we'll get the three points against Cobham.

Badshot Lea 3-1 Corinthian-Casuals
Combined Counties Premier Division South Tuesday 5th August 2025 Report: Josh Lamey Images: Harvey Abbott Raf Barbosa’s early opener was eclipsed by a clinical Badshot Lea performance, which left Corinthian-Casuals reminiscing on a sharp start that fizzled out. Mu Maan’s side are acclimatising to their second season in Step 5, and had shown early signs that their potential can translate into a healthy league position come April. A point at Tooting & Mitcham on opening night – despite a performance that perhaps warranted all three – preceded Saturday’s cup classic: a hard-fought 4-2 win over Abbey Rangers in the FA Cup extra preliminary round, but a summer’s evening in rural Surrey proved to be a different challenge altogether. With just seven minutes on the clock, Casuals took an early lead when Marcos dos Santos picked out the run of the returning Barbosa, who slotted beyond a stranded Harry White before charging into a huddle of Corinthian joy to the left-hand side of the goal. However, it took Badshot Lea just 15 minutes to fashion their response. An outside-of-the-boot pass unpicked the Casuals defence, and despite the best efforts of the back-peddling Tommy Smith, the ball was bundled in virtually on the goalline. A fast start at Westfield Lane. And as the sea of claret and blue continued to surge forward, the turnaround was complete when first-half substitute Louis Pask causing more problems in the final third. Pask’s determination allowed him to muscle his way through, and by weaving and cutting inside, he dispatched his side’s second. Quincy Rowe and Rewan Alyasi were called upon by Maan at half-time to reinforce the rearguard and to add some energetic flair to the wide positions respectively in a bid to regain control of the game. Rowe almost made the perfect entrance when the ball broke kindly for the experienced centre-half on the edge of the box, but White scurried across to intervene just in time. Meanwhile, the Baggies had a chance of their own, but Casuals keeper Sanghyun Baek produced a smart reflex stop from close range following a swift counterattack. Spurred on by the noise of the travelling Corinthian contingent, Casuals continued to throw bodies forward in search of a desperately desired leveller. Arsenii Protsyshyn had a couple of efforts saved, one of which would’ve arrowed into the roof of the net had it not been for the fingertips of the Badshot keeper. However, Corinthian-Casuals’ fate was sealed late on. A blistering run down the right from the Baggies’ winger carved out the opportunity to pick out an unmarked Eric Kerage, who tapped home the winner from close quarters. The result brought Casuals back down to earth after their FA Cup joy, but Maan’s side will be looking to reignite their start to 2025/26 when they travel to the Leg O’Mutton Field to face one of the early promotion favourites, Cobham. Carl-Wilson Denis returned to the starting line-up after missing last week’s penalty shoot out victory against AFC Wimbledon. The early exchanges saw both sides display their attacking intent but it wasn’t until the 10th minute that the games first effort on target was registered. Mason Welch-Turner who had a spell at Badshot last season having an effort straight at ex-Slough keeper Jake Sommerville. It was unlucky 13 for the hosts as the visitors opened the scoring. Slack defending and failure to clear allowed Darren Blake two attempts to cross from the right and the ball found an unmarked Gavin Muir at the back post who headed home past the stranded Danny Bracken. (pictured below) Almost immediately Casuals thought they had levelled. Danny Green lofting the ball into the area where Juevan Spencer arrived before the keeper. With the ball squeezing through the number 1’s legs the winger was left with a routine tap in but his sidefooted effort was magnificently blocked on the line by captain Callum Nimmo. As much as Spencer should have scored credit has to be given to the defender for his determination to keep the ball out. Spencer continued to look lively and this time after latching onto Lee Hall’s searching pass he skipped past James Osler but saw his left footed effort flash just wide of the far post. At the other end with the game in full swing James Ayres was inches away from connecting to Osler’s lofted pass with Bracken committed at the edge of his box. Casuals continued to press looking for the leveller. Jamie Byatt having a superb effort from outside the box, which curled over Sommerville but clipped the top of the bar. With Casuals pushing further forward it was leaving gaps at the back and Danny Turner (pictured left) who was a thorn in the home side’s backline all night fired off a warning shot which Bracken did well to parry clear. The final five minutes of the half saw Casuals pin their opponents back and Wilson-Denis was next to hit the upright as his header from Reece Placid’s cross rebounded clear before being scrambled away. Out of nothing however the visitors doubled their lead a minute before the whistle. There seemed to be little danger as Turner received the ball out wide on the left but after cutting inside and twisting Green who smashed his effort into the corner of Bracken’s net. Casuals made the perfect start to the second half as they reduced the deficit within the first two minutes. Wilson-Denis showing good intelligence to hold off his man and tee up Lee Hall who rifled home from the edge of the box via a slight deflection. Casuals poured forward as at the end of the first half with the visitors having to defend well from a series of corners.Despite this it was Badshot who came closest to a third as sub Mike Siemak saw a looping header tipped over by Bracken following a deep free kick. The game continued with Casuals looking to load the box and the visitors happy to break with Turner at the forefront. With 20 minutes remaining the games pivotal moment arrived as Turner found the run of James Ayres who though on goal as adjudged by the assistant to have been clipped by Danny Dudley. Despite Casuals protests the defender received his marching orders and Turner sent Bracken the wrong way from the spot to put his side 3-1 up. It was now all the visitors with Turner rampant and only the legs of Bracken denied the striker his hat-trick. At the other end it appeared not to be Casuals night as Byatt when in on goal lobbed high of Sommerville and over the bar. Turner duly completed his hat trick when he slid home after Nick Thumbwood’s effort had rebounded back off the post. It was his 24th goal in 21 appearances; a stat that will surely alert clubs higher up the pyramid. In the end a deserved victory for the Combined Counties side who showed more desire and a will to win on the evening. Casuals although disappointed will turn their hand to the most important matter of continuing to distance themselves from the lower end of the league table. Matt Howard spoke after the game “We were poor tonight. It’s the same story as before; attack their box better, defend our box better. “In fairness, coming in at half time, I thought we were doing alright without scoring. “Their first goal, we didn’t react to the loose ball. We had chances to clear it but the fella’s crossed it to the only place he could’ve and we didn’t read that and they’ve tucked it into an empty net. “The second goal, Greeny, who in the last couple of weeks has been superb, has made a poor decision to let them cut back in and cross it in. He knows better… and he’s held his hands up for that. “We’ve come out second half, score after a minute and 28 seconds and it was game on. “I’m massively disappointed but we have to wipe our mouths and go again Saturday. Hopefully, we can bounce back right away. If we play how we know we can do and the lads work how they should work, why can’t we get all three points? |
