Thurrock’s resignation from the league above opened another promotion spot which the FA decreed was to be awarded to the losing finalist with the highest average points-per-game throughout the regular season.
Saturday’s playoff final penalty-shoot out loss to Walton Casuals looked to have condemned Casuals to runners-up for the second year in succession.
And whilst it didn’t look like the club were in the running for the extra spot, results across the country were favourable. With Haringey Borough’s 3-1 win over Canvey Island on Sunday and Hartley Wintney’s 1-0 win against Cambridge City on Bank Holiday Monday, Casuals are left as the highest placed losing finalist.
All at the club are delighted at the news and plaudits must go to Manager James Bracken, his Assistant Dan Pringle, the backroom staff and players for the wonderful achievement.
