Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division
Tuesday 29th September 2020 - 7.45pm
The Whisky Bible Stadium, Moatside.
The last attempt at playing at Merstham’s Whisky Bible Stadium saw the majority of supporters already in the ground when the referee made an 11th hour postponement. Hopefully, the same won’t occur this time, barring a deluge of rain between now and 7.45pm on Tuesday 29th September.
That fixture looked to be a pivotal six pointer between two sides flirting with relegation. Casuals were in rich form leading up to the tie and Merstham had also picked up a few handy points, but found themselves in the drop zone. With the season null and void, Merstham survived the drop and continue to play Isthmian Premier football for their sixth year.
Though Frank Wilson’s side haven’t had the grandest of starts. Two defeats in the league – to Hornchurch and a late Billy Bricknell goal against Enfield – were coupled with an FA Cup exit to AFC Dunstable, bowing out on penalties.
Wilson has a number of his ex-Tooting squad once again but is bolstered in midfield by AFC Wimbledon loanee, Elliott Bolton. Omar Folkes is the likely threat, scoring against the Casuals in the 1-0 loss to the Moatsiders at the beginning of last season.
Casuals come into this game on the back of two wins and brimming with confidence. But have yet to register a win at Moatside for many a year. Merstham are undoubtedly a bogey side for Corinth and James Bracken will be delighted to remove that monkey off his back as he did with Potters Bar on Saturday – another side Casuals hadn’t beaten for many years.
Admission is £10 adults, £6 concessions (over 60s, students, disabled), £3 under 16s. There’s no pre-online purchasing – it’ll all be done at the gate. Merstham are encouraging fans to download the NHS Track and Trace app before entering the ground. The bar, located just outside of the turnstiles will be open. It’s not a long trip to Merstham, just off the M25 near Redhill. Your postcode for the SatNav is RH1 3QB.
We hope you can join us on our travels once again in this important Isthmian League Premier fixture.
