Saturday 4th December 2021
Corinthian-Casuals are delighted to invite you to a celebration of the life of Sócrates – the footballer, philosopher and Corinthians legend who once donned the Chocolate and Pink of the Casuals.
Our Ptiching In Isthmian League Premier fixture against Wingate & Finchley on Saturday December 4th at the United Business Group Stadium also serves as the tenth anniversary of the premature death of the great ‘Doctor’ – the iconic captain of the greatest Brazilian side never to win the World Cup.
A day of celebration will feature a number of tributes; SK Kits and Corinthian Sports have collaborated to produce a one-off memorial match shirt which the team will don for just this one fixture. It’s a nod to the old shirt that Socrates wore for Casuals in their tour of 1988. What’s more, the 8 shirt will be retired for the match, a nod to Socrates iconic number.
Furthermore, esteemed artist Francesca Morris has created a wonderful new limited edition print of Socrates playing in the Casuals colours, inspired by the midfielder’s appearance in the shirt in ’88.(see images below). Produced in conjunction with our main sponsor, TRS Worldwide, just 240 prints are available signed by Morris and will be available to purchase on the day and in the online shop.
Finally, to top the day off, we’ll have a traditional Brazilian band playing in the clubhouse after the match. With caipirinhas, feijoada and a samba beat, it’s sure to bring warmth to an otherwise chilly November afternoon as we celebrate one of football's greatest icons.
